WinMerge installs a number of predefined filter files in its Filters folder, and you can create your own, too. But I prefer the diff viewer that comes with TortoiseSVN and the archive diff isn’t recursive by default, so I decided to set it up manually. Filter files are collections of regular expressions that can either include or exclude files. To change any of these options and for information about other command options, see Command line. They enable you to apply multiple filtering rules to a folder comparison. By default, the compare includes all files in the folders, and is nonrecursive. File filters are text files with an extension of flt. Copy the paste the following to create a filter. In your command arguments, include the left and right folders to compare. To create a filter in WinMerge, go to Tools > Filters > then click New to create a new filter. WinMerge supports that, and can be integrated with TortoiseSVN very easily right through its installer. Though BBEdit comes off as pricey, this allows for stable and consistent updates from the developers. I really like the Diff Viewer that comes with TortoiseSVN, but from what I can gather it doesn’t seem to support anything but text files, which is fair enough, but I need to compare archives as well. BBEdit is commercial software, the paid counterpart to their free application Textwrangler.
